Cahir Castle

An imposing 15th Century structure, which was designed as a state of the art defensive castle. Located mid river, on an outcrop of rock, the skill of its builders is very apparent. Note especially the manner in which every last square foot of thej rocky island has been utilised, to such good effect as to make it difficult in places to determine the castle proper and which the 'living' rock from which it seems to grow.

It provides a guide service and a splendid audio visual presentation.

Open: Mid March to Mid July, daily.9.30am to 5.30pm. Mid June to Mid Sept,daily,9.00am to 7.30pm. Mid Sept - Mid Oct,9.30am - 5.30pm, Mid Oct to Mid March 9.30am to 4.30pm. Last Admissions 45 mins before closing.
